About Us
SAFE NYC was formed by a small group of local activists motivated by the increasing visibility of anti-immigrant rhetoric and the wish to celebrate and support our immigrant neighbors through political advocacy and community engagement. We use a three-pronged approach to connect with, learn from and find ways to better our city for NYC’s immigrant communities as well as all oppressed and targeted groups:
- Take Action! SAFE NYC serves as a hub for volunteer opportunities and to stay engaged in actions that others are taking and calls for urgent and mass action.
- Fundraising We leverage our personal and professional networks and our varied skillsets to raise money for organizations working directly with NYC’s immigrant communities.
- Workshopping our Privilege At our meetings, we commit to tackling the “difficult conversations” and learning how to carry those conversations and an understanding of our own privilege out of SAFE and into our communities.
